The Water Treatment Division has the responsibility of treating the raw water from the Assiniboine River and the operation of the McKay Reservoir and Pump Station. As well, meter reading and installation forms part of the duties.

As part of the City of Portage la Prairie’s ongoing drinking water review program and the continuing effort to ensure the City’s treated water meets current treatment standards, the City undertook testing of tap water at a few homes.

 The Wastewater Treatment Division's primary responsibility is the treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater.
 Secondarily they look after the operation and maintenance of 13 sewage pumping stations located around the City.
